Planning For GoPo Teachers

First Steps

  1. You’re here. That’s a great start. Don’t panic…or stop panicking.

  2. Check out the College Board's AP Government home page at where you can download the GoPo 2019 AP U.S. Government and Politics Course and Exam Description.

  3. If you are more of a visual learner take a ride on this interactive AP U.S. Government and Politics Course and Exam Description Walk-Through.

  4. Select a textbook from my Textbook List and read it before your students do.

  5. It’s multiple choice test time! Take the full-length AP US Government Practice Exam on page 76 of 2018 AP CED; the short-length sample practice exam on page 171 of the 2019 AP CED; and the 2018 AP Audit Released Practice Exam. Internalize all of these tests, look for patterns, and try to understand the mind of the test-makers. Cherry-pick the best questions to edit for the redesigned course to include on your own students’ tests.

  6. Check out the 2019 Free-Response Questions! Create your own FRQs like these for your tests.

  7. Take a walk down memory lane with oodles of Practice Free-Response Questions from 2018 and earlier. Remember, the exam has been redesigned but these FRQs can be used in class or hacked into the redesign format for class tests.

  8. Start building your Pacing Guide/Schedule for the course.

  9. Your students should get an AP review book. I made my own exam review book with review sheets, tests, and answer keys, I also like the Princeton Review, and, of course, you could make your own.

  10. Use my AP website as a resource.

  11. Check out our GoPo Magical Review Page complete with 2020 AP Exam countdown clock!

  12. Select a reliable news source to connect content to current events. Try Vox or NPR which are cheap (free) and fabulous.

  13. Get a copy of The Lanahan Readings in the American Polity by Ann Serow & Everett Ladd (Lanahan Publishers) and find one reading to use per unit.

  14. When you run out of time, energy, and creativity go to my website and get all the lessons, class starters, and reviews you need.

  15. Lather, rinse, and repeat.
